A murder
investigation has been launched after a woman was found with fatal head
injuries at a south-east London home.
The 61-year-old was
discovered last night at a property on Oakwood Avenue, in Beckenham, after
police were called at 11.08pm.
Formal identification
has not yet taken place but officers ‘are confident’ that the victim is Diane
Dyer.
Met Police said they
believe Ms Dyer knew her attacker. Emergency services found the victim
unresponsive and suffering from head injuries on arrival.
She was pronounced
dead at the scene. Ms Dyer’s next-of-kin have been informed.
No arrests have yet
been made. A post-mortem examination is due to take place on later today.
Detective Chief
Inspector Mark Cranwell said: ‘This is a tragic incident and we are supporting
Diane’s family at this difficult time. ‘I would like to reassure the community
that this is thought to be an isolated incident and we believe Diane knew her
attacker.
‘My officers are working around the clock to
apprehend the person responsible, however we also need the public’s help.’
