Coronation
Street’s Antony Cotton confronted anti-gay protesters at Manchester Pride
and attempted to bash down their hateful placards with a
pride flag.
The actor, who plays
Sean Tully on the much loved soap, was celebrating the LGBT community alongside
his co-stars on the ITV float when they came across a number of anti-LGBT signs
in the crowd.
Rather than ignore
them, Antony seized the moment to remind the protesters that the annual
celebration was no place for intolerance, and got off the bus waving a pride
flag on a large stick.
He then approached
the signs (which bore ‘delightful’ messages such as ‘Abstain from fleshly lusts
which wage war against the soul’ and declaring sleeping with the same sex is
against nature) and proceeded to bash them with the flag.
To cement the point
of the whole event further, Antony was wearing a t-shirt from Stonewall that
declared ‘Some people are gay. Get over it.’
Too right, Antony.![]() |

The protesters, armed
with megaphones, were heard spouting religious scripture in defense of their
thoughts that being gay was a sin.
Before heading back
on the bus, he blew them a kiss and waved at the fans that were actually there
to celebrate LGBT rights and love in all its glory.
Dolly Rose-Campbell,
who plays Gemma Winter on the series, had seemingly been prepared for the whole
‘it’s-against-God’ argument that people tend to drum up to fight against LGBT
rights, and came with her own sign that declared: ‘Jesus had two dads and he
turned out fine.’
Other Corrie stars
taking part in the festivities were Charlie Di Melo (Imran Habeeb), Daniel
Brocklebank (Billy Mayhew), Sally Dynevor (Sally Metcalfe), Rob Mallard (Dan
Osbourne) and Faye Brookes (Kate Connor).
With Drag Race’s UK
stars making their debut in the parade, Ariana Grande and Cheryl performing and
it being bright and sunny weather all weekend, we know what party we’d rather
be a part of.
