Disney has unveiled a new poster for Star Wars: The Return Of
Skywalker at the Disney 23 expo, and we’re living for it.
And it doesn’t look like good news as Rey and Kylo Ren can be
seen duelling, in front of a creepy looking Darth Sidious.
Episode IX might not be out until 20 December, but that hasn’t
stopped fans going into total meltdown over the preview, with some going so far
as to say it’s the ‘best’ poster yet.
‘Welp this is the best modern SW poster,’ one said, while
another screamed: ‘I’m quaking’. ‘Pretty bad ass looking poster to be honest,’
an impressed follower added.

And, right on cue, director JJ Abrams took a second to drop
some nuggets about the upcoming release, revealing Carrie Fisher is the ‘heart’
of the whole thing.
Addressing the crowd during a panel appearance, he said: ‘The
character of Leia is really, in a way, the heart of this story.
‘We realised we could not possibly tell the end of these nine
films without Leia.’
Speaking about how they would use pre-recorded footage of the
late actress, he continued: ‘We realised that we had footage from Episode VII,
and we could use it in a new way.’
Bring. It. On. JJ previously explained there was absolutely no
way they were ever going to recast Princess Leia after Carrie sadly died, in
2016.
‘You don’t recast that part and you don’t suddenly have her
disappear,’ he said following the release of the first Rise Of Skywalker
trailer.
‘Looking at those scenes and starting to understand that there
was actually a way to use those scenes and continue her story, so that it would
be her…
‘The idea of having a
CG (computer-generated) character was off the table… We said, “What if we could
write scenes about her, so it’s her performance?” ‘Every day it hits me that
she’s not here.
It’s so surreal because we are working with her still, if that
makes sense. She’s in scenes. She’s alive in scenes.’
